Harry Potter and the Wall of Wonder

Decorating the walls of your room can be a lot of fun. It's a way to make the space more personal. Perhaps you have a bunch of photographs hung up, or some posters of athletes or actors or singers. Or maybe you've gone a simpler direction and chosen to paint the room a favourite colour.

Or maybe you painted out the entire first page of your most loved book.

While we're going to guess that you likely didn't do that last one, it really did happen. A Florida woman named Meredith McCardle painted an entire wall in her home with page one from Philosopher's Stone. You know, the one about Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive?

Yep, that's the one!

As it turns out, the process was a long and painstaking one (which makes sense, because if it was easy, we'd all decorate our homes like this, right?). First she projected the page on her wall using a projector she borrowed from a local elementary school. Then she traced the outlines of the words on to the wall in pencil. Finally she painted the lines in with black paint. And ZAP! Instant* Harry Potter art!

(*By "instant" we mean that it actually took weeks...)

The neat thing about all of this is that McCardle is an author herself. She has written two YA novels so far, The Eighth Guardian and Blackout, both parts of her Annum Guard series. While we applaud her for choosing to decorate her home with someone else's book and not her own, who knows? Maybe one day someone will paint the opening page of one of her books on their wall!

  3. That wall is really cool, it must of taken her a really long time. I’ve read all the books plus the Cursed Child and Fantastic Beasts. They are a great series of books. I definitely recommend them to anyone who hasn’t read them.

  4. I read all the books twice the August of 2016. Including “Harry Potter and The Cursed Child”. The books are all great.I wish I could do that to the walls of my room except,I would paint the covers of my favorite books. But that take forever. ☹️ ☹️ ? ? ? ? ? ?
