Hey, you! Yes, you. Looking for another great summer read? You've come to the right place!
We sent a new book from debut author Lisa Bunker to one of our readers, 12 year-old Gabriel, for review. The book, called Felix Yz, is definitely a one-of-a-kind story. But don't take it from us—read on to get the scoop right from our reviewer.
Hear it from Gabriel
This was a very interesting, out-of-the ordinary book about a boy with an inter-dimensional being stuck inside of him. The book is made up of Felix's thoughts on the upcoming procedure to separate them.
My favourite part of the book was when the main character, Felix, ran away from home and jumped on to a passing train. This thrilling part showed how weak Felix was, 5 days away from his potential death. He was completely stranded, going only where the train would take him! Even though he was at rock bottom, he was determined to stay alive and figure out what he was doing in life.
The first few chapters in the book were very confusing to the point where I had no idea what was going on, but as the book progressed, Felix explained more about Zyx, the alien living inside of him, how the two joined together, and why they need to be separated.
I think that other children would want to read this book because it is very adventurous and it’s not your average sci-fi book. Anyone can relate to the “be yourself” theme of the book, whether or not you have an alien stuck inside of you! Overall, Felix Yz is a very interesting book and I highly recommend it to everyone who likes aliens, chess, science, and a good read.
