Space telescope with x-ray vision heads into orbit

On February 17, the ASTRO-H X-ray telescope launched into orbit from the Tanegashima Space Center in Japan.



This Japanese space telescope with X-ray vision is currently orbiting about 550 km (342 mi.) above the Earth.

ASTRO-H has been designed to help solve some really big mysteries about space. Using breakthrough technology, it will be able to collect important data about black holes, supernovas, and neutron stars. It could also reveal new information about how galaxies form.

And did we mention ASTRO-H’s X-ray vision has been sharpened with the help of Canadian technology? Scientists from the Canadian Space Agency developed a special laser alignment system, which allows the telescope to capture crystal-clear photos.
