On Saturday, February 13, a Toronto crowd got to enjoy one of the best all-time dunk contests as part of the 2016 NBA All-Star Weekend festivities. But it wasn’t without controversy.
While 2015 winner Zach LaVine would reign in the end, Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon pushed him to the limit. His dunks were so inventive, the Twitterverse quickly proclaimed he should have taken home the trophy.
In the final round, all four dunks — two from each of the finalists — received perfect scores. In a spectacular feat of timing, Gordon grabbed the basketball from the Orlando Magic mascot Stuff – who was spinning on a hoverboard at the time – and then threw down a dunk while spinning himself.
In the end, the Timberwolves’ LaVine’s extreme athleticism – leaping from the free-throw line, twisting and turning, effortlessly slamming dunk after dunk — earned him the title of two-time NBA Dunk champion.
Check out the dunks in the video below and let us know what you think in the comments.
