Also known by his real name, Clayton Hanmer, CTON and OWL go way back.
His work with OWL has included the CTON's Corner comic, art for Owlkids Books picture books like Dog Vs. Ultra-Dog, and CTON's Super A-Maze-Ing Year Of Crazy Comics. These days, he draws the What A Hoot! comic in each issue of OWL and is also the artist behind the magazine's mascot, Hoot. And that's just the stuff that he does with us!
Suffice to say that he's a busy guy with a totally rad drawing style and silly sense of humour. And he's got a lot of knowledge to pass on about what he does. Would you like to learn a thing or two?
You're in luck!
Grab your pen and paper
This month, CTON did an instructional video with the TD Summer Reading Club. It's so great, we're sharing it with you now.
In the video, he shows you how to start with the most basic shapes, and then use them to build characters. He reveals how to draw all sorts of different emotions and outfits. And then he puts it all together in a comic strip!
So if you're feeling artsy (or you just want to see how an illustrator works), grab a pen and paper, and press play below.
Have a colourful and creative weekend, everyone!
I like CTON’s comics
This is really cool, I make comics all the time now! 😉

Thanks for the nice review, Owl!!! 🙂
I’ve had a lot of fun creating art & stories for Owl, Chickadee, and Chirp over the years. It’s great to hear that some of your readers are enjoying comic creation themselves! Yay! 😀

Thanks Owl!! I will try to write a funny comic! 😀
