The first Saturday of every August is Sandcastle Day. In 2017, that is August 5... today!
And just what does one do on Sandcastle Day? Isn't it obvious... ?
Pull up to a beach or sandbox or park, bring some buckets, shovels, and some water, and get building! What a great way to spend a summer's day, right? You might even find yourself close to a place holding a sandcastle festival today (like Cobourg, Ontario, for example). Either way, it's the perfect excuse for some fun in the sun.
Taking it to the next level
And if you're looking for some inspiration, we've got something that we think you'll really dig. Right now, Parksville, British Columbia is in the middle of the Parksville Beach Festival (from July 14 to August 20). Parksville is a small town just north of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. At the start of every festival, they have a sand sculpting competition, and the results are awesome. Have a look...
After the competition is over, the sculptures are left up for the rest of the festival. Tourists from around the world come to see these works of art.
We've got a video below of some of the sculptors at work during last year's festival. Have a look, get inspired, and head out to the sand. Have fun!
